BBQ & Events

The Riverhouse is a restaurant and bar that serves up authentic Texas barbecue in a laid-back Montana atmosphere. We are open year-round for dinner and indoor events. The tent goes up in our Backyard Memorial Day through Labor Day for outdoor events. We invite you to visit our FAQ section below for information about our menu, location, events and more.
Do you take reservations?

No. If you have a large group coming (15-30 people), we recommend coming before 5:30pm or after 8pm to avoid a longer wait. If you have over 30 people and it’s during our summer months please reach out to Kara about booking an Event.

Are you open for lunch?
No. We open at 3 p.m. Food is served daily until 10 p.m.
How do I get to The Riverhouse?

The Riverhouse is located along Highway 191. If you’re coming from Bozeman, drive 2.5 miles past the traffic light where you can turn to go to the town of Big Sky. If you’re coming from Big Sky Resort or Big Sky Town Center, head east on Lone Mountain Trail, when you arrive at the 191 intersection, turn right and drive 2.5 miles. The Riverhouse is on your left.

What is Texas BBQ?
Actually, there are several types of Texas barbecue. Our barbecue is prepared in the Hill Country style, inspired by barbecue found in Greg’s hometown of New Braunfels. We ate a lot of barbecue over the years while perfecting our own recipe, and we’re confident that our barbecue stands up to the best you’ll find in Texas.
What makes it so darn tasty?
We don’t want to give away all of our secrets, but it has something to do with the combination of our homemade rub and our technique of slow-smoking the meat over mesquite wood. We make a dry rub using a secret blend of spices and seasonings then smoke the meat for 12-18 hours at a low temperature.
How do I get my hands on some of that Riverhouse BBQ?

Easy. Either come in for dinner (we’re open seven nights a week) or plan your next event here. Whether you’re getting married, planning your company’s Christmas party or celebrating your anniversary, we host events of all kinds. Visit our Events page to find out more.

Can I make it myself?

You can try. Start by ordering our classic Brisket Rub from the website. Go to the Shop page to find our classic Brisket Rub, along our tasty Pinto Bean Seasoning. It’s up to you to chop your own wood, though.

How do I go about planning my wedding at The Riverhouse?

What? You’re getting married? Congratulations! Start by visiting our Weddings page. Then contact Kara, our events manager, through the contact form on the website. She’ll work with you to start planning your perfect wedding.

How many people can The Riverhouse accommodate for an outdoor event?
A lot. Our tent comfortably fits 200 people. If you need more room, you are welcome to rent a secondary tent. Up to 300 people can comfortably gather in our backyard event area.
When is your tent available to rent?

The tent goes up in June and comes down in October. We have our saloon area, the Dance Hall, available all year. The Dance Hall holds up to 50 people.

Can I rent out the entire restaurant?

The Riverhouse can be rented out in its entirety. Buyouts are made on a case-by-case situation and are not available during the months of July and August. Talk to our events manager, Kara, for more information.
